RITES WITH THE SICK AND DYING

End of life issues

There are a multitude of details to attend to regarding end of life issues. Just as having a will and other legal matters in place is important, it is also advisable to plan funerals and memorial services in advance. This can make it easier on families who are grieving. If you would like to work with the rector to plan your funeral or memorial service please email him, or call the office 617-738-1810.  For  information on having a funeral or memorial service at All Saints please scroll down.

Wills and Bequests

The Book of Common Prayer instructs that it is the “duty of Christian parents to make prudent provision for the well-being of their families, and of all persons to make wills, while they are in health, arranging for the disposal of their temporal goods, not neglecting, if they are able, to leave bequests for religious and charitable uses.” (Book of Common Prayer, page 445.) All are encouraged to remember the Church in their wills so that their values and commitments might continue after death.

Columbarium

All Saints Parish has a Columbarium located in the Resting Chapel of the church. Please inquire with the parish office for information about reserving an individual niche in the Columbarium for the internment of ashes.

Prayers for the Sick and Dying

As death approaches, the person and immediate family require regular, loving support. At the time of and immediately after death the need for care is critical. People need to be strengthened by prayers during this difficult time, whether prayer is offered at home, in church, or in the funeral home. All Saints prays daily for the sick and dying; please call the parish office so we may place names of your loved ones on our prayer list. With your permission we will give your name to our Caring Ministry Team who can provide support.

Pastoral counseling with the grieving family

The Rector should be notified as soon as possible following a death. Call 617-738-1810 xt 105, or email. The Rector will meet with the immediate family to offer pastoral support and to plan the worship service.
