LECTIO DIVINA ON THE GOSPEL OF THOMAS
First Sundays, beginning 6 September 2026, noon
Richard offers a monthly hour of Lectio Divina on the Gospel of Thomas, meeting on the rug in the Langdon Chapel.
Each session follows the same pattern: a movement practice to bring body, heart, and mind into awareness, brief centering prayer or silent meditation, then a check-in, and a period of Lectio on a single saying from the Gospel of Thomas. We take one logion at a time and sit with it to let it work on us.
Lectio Divina is a foundational contemplative practice — a way of reading, listening, and absorbing sacred text that asks us to slow down, listen with the heart, and let new meanings unfold. The sayings in the Gospel of Thomas are short and koan-like, familiar enough to be reassuring and strange enough to wake us up. The way in is not scholarly commentary but personal resonance: where does this land in me — in sensation, in my heart, in my gut?
Some of us have been practicing together since the spring, but each session stands on its own and newcomers are always welcome. No registration, preparation, or prior experience is needed. Sessions run an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. Come once or come every month.
