JUNIOR WARDEN

Rusty Fenton

Russell Fenton (Rusty) was invited to attend a Baptist church at the age of six, and from that point on the church became his center of gravity until well into his twenties. However, while studying to become a pastor at a private Christian university, he began questioning the brand of Christianity he had inherited, which led him to leave the church and the pastoral path he was on. During this wilderness time, Rusty explored Zen Buddhism and Charismatic Christianity before eventually finding his spiritual home in the Episcopal Church. Attracted to the liturgy and the freedom to intellectually breathe, Rusty has been an Episcopalian for the past twenty years. He met his wife, Nirupa, at Trinity Church Boston, and their daughter, Zara, was

baptized there. As Zara grew older, however, Rusty and Nirupa recognized the need for a more intimate church experience, and in due time that need was met by the genuinely welcoming community of All Saints, of which they have been members since 2016. Born and raised in southern California, Rusty holds a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. He currently works for the Office of Adult and Community Learning Services within the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and lives with his family in Jamaica Plain. Rusty is an avid reader of nonfiction and delights in meaningful conversations. He also enjoys traveling, binge-watching movies, and dabbling at writing songs and playing guitar.
