By some accounts racist incidents and rhetoric against the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in the US have increased as much as 150 percent during the COVID-19 pandemic. The mass shooting on 15 March, in which six of eight people killed in three spas in Atlanta, Georgia, were Asian women, has prompted urgent conversations about prejudice against the AAPI community which has a long history in our country going back at least to the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. The Courageous Conversation for this month will be an opportunity to become more familiar with this history and the racism faced by our AAPI neighbors in our communities today.
