Saturday With Friends What do we believe? Coming to All Saints: Friends of the Groom Theater Company, Saturday, October 22, 9:30 am-2:30 pm. $10 for adults; under 18 free. Includes lunch. Don't miss this exciting day for all ages with a theater company that specializes in making the Christian message challenging and fun at the same time. There's something for everyone - adults, youth, families, folks involved in Christian education, stewardship and welcoming committees. The performances, talks, and small group activities are designed to help each person grow in Christ and to build a sense of community. Along the way, the group will use theater and storytelling to bring scripture and worship alive. So if you're looking for new, creative ways to communicate the gospel, or if you're just someone who likes to watch, laugh, and think - come and enjoy this delightful time with friends old and new. Friends of the Groom is a professional theater company dedicated to communicating the Christian message in an entertaining and challenging format. The inter-denominational group is located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and normally travels in teams of two or three. Since 1980, they have performed plays, led retreat weekends, and conducted workshops in thousands of locations from Anchorage to Canterbury. In July, they appeared at the National Stewardship Leaders Conference in Minneapolis. Website: www.friendsofthegroom.org To purchase tickets, please contact: Marianne Evett, 781-316-8470 or email: mevett@mac.com or the parish office: Global Reconciliation: Faith and the Millennium Development Goals In mid-July, I preached a sermon about the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and encouraged all of us to educate ourselves about the hope they bring to this moment in the worldís history. We know that churches have long been committed to seeking solutions to poverty and social injustice encapsulated by the MDGs within the context of morality and compassion. Here is an opportunity to learn more about the current situation and what is required of us as Christians. The series begins with Lutheran minister and president of Bread for the World, David Beckmann. An eight week public lecture series begins Thursday, October 6 (7:00 to 8:30 pm) at Episcopal Divinity School, 99 Brattle Street, Cambridge. EDS in partnership with the Boston Theological Institute is addressing the call by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, "we who are strong in love must be remembered as the ones who really did make poverty history." The Millennium Development Goals (MDG) were first formulated in 2000 and commit the international community to an expanded vision of international development that promotes global social and economic justice. In June this year, religious leaders from Jewish, Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Muslim, Sikh, and Buddhist traditions met to urge the end of hunger in the US and abroad. For more information and a comprehensive list of speakers and topics, go to the EDS website: www.eds.edu. I encourage you to join me. - Stefani Schatz From the Rector | Liturgy | Good News & Opportunities
